Building the Team Behind Afrilang

When we first introduced Afrilang, we shared a simple belief: African languages deserve the same thoughtful, modern learning experience that many of the world's most widely spoken languages already enjoy.

Over the past few months, we've been laying the foundations to make that vision a reality. We've been refining our product thinking, designing our learning experience, and making deliberate decisions about how Afrilang should grow.

Today, we're excited to share an important milestone.

Meet Hosanna Ugwu, Afrilang's Product Lead

As Afrilang moves from planning into building, we're delighted to welcome Hosanna Ugwu as our Product Lead.

Hosanna joins us to lead the design and development of the Afrilang product experience, from shaping our roadmap and prioritising features to ensuring that every decision we make supports our mission of making African languages accessible, engaging, and culturally authentic.

Building a language learning platform is about much more than technology. It requires understanding how people learn, how culture is experienced, and how thoughtful product design can bring those together. That's exactly the perspective Hosanna brings to Afrilang.

Over the coming months, he'll be working closely with me to transform our vision into a product that people will genuinely enjoy using.

Why this matters

Every new person who joins Afrilang strengthens our ability to build intentionally.

Rather than rushing towards launch, we're investing in creating strong foundations. We're asking difficult questions, testing assumptions, and making decisions that will allow Afrilang to grow well, not just quickly.

Our focus remains unchanged:

• Building an audio-first learning experience led by native speakers.
• Creating lessons rooted in real life conversations and cultural context.
• Designing a platform that can eventually support African languages from across the continent.
• Building technology that preserves culture rather than simplifying it.

This milestone brings us one step closer to opening Afrilang to our first learners.

What's next?

With our Product Lead now onboard, our next priority is building the learning experience that will sit at the heart of Afrilang.

We're now beginning the search for a Curriculum Lead to join our founding team and help design the learning structure that will power every lesson on the platform. This role will be responsible for developing our curriculum framework, ensuring our courses are pedagogically sound, culturally authentic, and engaging for learners at every stage of their language journey.
